If you keep those Fast-fishes, (Fishes that mature in 3 minute, 5 minute, 15 minute, 25 minute, 30 minute, etc) they still do not die within that 24hour period!
Here is the proof...
So if you have got time to spare (eg: you can log in every one or two hours) but no time to log in like every 3, 5 or 25 minute, you can keep these fishes...
